Retrograde planets, nodes and Chiron
In short
The deeper layer of a birth chart: planets that appear to move backwards, the lunar nodes and Chiron.
What retrograde means
Seen from Earth, every planet except the Sun and Moon sometimes seems to slow down, stop and move backwards through the zodiac for a while. Nothing changes in the planet itself; it is an effect of our own movement around the Sun. In astrology a retrograde planet at birth is read as an inward-turned version of its theme: Mercury reflects before it speaks, Venus questions what it values, Mars rethinks before it acts.
Retrogrades in your birth chart
Many people have one or more retrograde planets. It is common and not a flaw. It often shows a topic you work through more personally, more slowly or more thoroughly than others. Mercury is retrograde about three times a year, so a Mercury retrograde at birth is frequent.
The lunar nodes
The North and South Node are calculated points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s path. They form an axis: the South Node stands for what feels familiar, the North Node for the direction of growth. They are points, not planets.
Chiron and Lilith
Chiron is a small body between Saturn and Uranus. It is read as a sensitive spot that can become a gift for others. Black Moon Lilith is the Moon’s farthest point from Earth, read as untamed, honest power. Both add nuance; neither replaces the planets.
